Hijacking CCTV Cameras in London
___________________________________________________________ Equipped with an interfering transmitter !Mediengruppe
Bitnik hacks surveillance cameras in pre-Olympic London and
assumes control. The artist collective replaces real-time
surveillance images with an invitation to play a game of
chess. The security staff's surveillance monitor located in

in one of the most surveilled public spaces in the world.
!Mediengruppe Bitnik intercepts the signal of a surveillance
camera: Business people making their way to the Underground,
a man in a suit looking for the right exit. From the left,
a woman with a yellow suitcase walks into the frame of the
surveillance camera. She opens her suitcase and activates a
switch. This is the moment when Bitnik takes over. The CCTV
operator experiences total loss of control. The surveillance
image drops out, a chess board appears on the surveillance
monitor and a voice from the loudspeakers says: «I am
controlling your CCTV camera now. I am the one with the
yellow suitcase.» The image jumps back to the woman with
the yellow suitcase. Then the image switches to the chess
board.«How about a game of chess?», the voice asks. «You
are white. I am black. Call me or text me to make your move.

from the City of Zurich for SURVEILLANCE CHESS. (DE) SURVEILLANCE CHESS

___________________________________________________________ Mit einem Störsender hackt die !Mediengruppe Bitnik in
der Olympia-Stadt London Überwachungskameras und
übernimmt die Kontrolle. Das Künstlerkollektiv ersetzt
die Echtzeit-Überwachungsbilder mit der Aufforderung
zu einer Partie Schach. Der Monitor im Kontrollraum des
Sicherheitspersonals wird zur Spielkonsole. HTTP://CHESS.BITNK.ORG

___________________________________________________________ London. Kurz vor Olympia. Eine U-Bahn-Haltestelle an
einem der meist überwachten öffentlichen Räume der
Welt. Die !Mediengruppe Bitnik fängt das Signal der
U-Bahn-Überwachungskamera ab: Geschäftsleute auf dem
Weg zur U-Bahn, ein Mann im Anzug sucht den richtigen
Ausgang. Dann schiebt sich von links eine Frau mit einem
gelben Koffer ins Bild und setzt sich ins Blickfeld der
Überwachungskamera. Sie öffnet den Koffer und betätigt
einen Schalter. Das ist der Moment, in dem Bitnik die
Kontrolle übernimmt. Kontrollverlust beim Betreiber:
Das Bild der Überwachungskamera fällt aus, und auf dem
Bildschirm erscheint ein Schachbrett, während über die
Kontrollraum-Boxen eine Stimme ertönt: «Ich kontrolliere
jetzt ihre Überwachungskamera. Ich bin die mit dem gelben
Koffer.» Das Bild springt zurück in die U-Bahn-Station auf
die Frau. Und wieder schaltet das Bild um auf Schachbrett:
«Wir wäre es mit einer Partie?», fragt die Stimme. «Du
bist Weiss. Ich bin Schwarz. Ruf mich an oder schreib eine
SMS, um deinen Zug mitzuteilen. Das ist meine Nummer:
